Job description

  • Permanent full time position, day worker, with on call, working 76 hours per fortnight.
  • Level 4 maternity &  a level 4 neonatal unit

The Position:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology offers a consultative service supported by a Level 4 maternity unit, a Level 4 neonatal unit, and an eight-bed intensive care unit. The maternity unit houses the birthing suite and all inpatient maternity services for the region. Antenatal care is delivered at the hospital and various outreach clinics.

Each year, the department manages approximately 1,000 births. The team includes experienced midwives and offers a highly regarded Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) scheme. Outreach antenatal and gynaecology clinics operate in regional centres.

The senior medical staff comprises both full-time and part-time Specialists. The hospital is accredited by RANZCOG to train two FRANZCOG core trainees and Advanced Proceduralist trainees. The department places a strong emphasis on continuing education, with structured learning opportunities led by Registrars and supported by Consultant staff.

Gynaecological services provided include colposcopy and laparoscopic procedures.

The Facility:

This 300-bed Tertiary Teaching Facility, renowned for its acute care capabilities, catering to over 24,000 inpatients and more than 225,000 outpatients each year. The bustling Emergency Department, equipped with 43 treatment beds, accommodates an annual influx of over 45,000 patients and maintains an admission rate of 35%. This accredited hospital maintains a close-knit partnership with the University of Tasmania through its clinical school.

Eligibility (at least one of the below):

1.    AHPRA Specialist Registration or eligible for AHPRA, Provisional or limited Registration
2.    AHPRA fast track expedited pathway - Eligible internationally qualified specialist obstetricians and gynaecologists are considered and suitable to apply
3.    IMG’s assessed by RANZCOG College as substantially comparable (doctors currently interviewing with RANZCOG may express their interest)
