Overview:
- Participate in the provision of high quality, efficient specialist clinical anaesthetic services to patients of the Hospital, including participation in the on-call anaesthetic roster
- Participate in the Pre-Admission Anaesthetic clinic
- Participate as part of an emergency response team to internal and external emergency situations when required
- Under instruction from the Director of Anaesthetics/ICU:
- Assist in the management of medical staff in the Department of Anaesthetics and intensive care including rostering, recruitment, succession planning and completion of performance appraisals
- Provide clinical leadership, teaching and supervision of junior medical staff
- Establish and participate in regular audits, risk management activities and clinical meetings
- Promote and maintain appropriate standards to meet the requirements of relevant governing bodies including ANZCA, PMCV, ACHS and AHPRA
- Assist with the establishment and/or management of accreditation of Anaesthetic Registrars
- Develop clinical research activities within the confines of the organisational resources
- Progressively develop and maintain a patient focussed ethos and continually strive for improvement
- Actively practice appropriate communication and service integration with other hospital departments
- Collaborate with the Director of Anaesthetics/ICU and other theatre staff to ensure that appropriate policies and protocols are developed and reviewed for use in theatre
- Show a demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education
- Balance an emergency workload while continuing to meet the needs of surgeons and elective surgical patients
Selection Criteria:
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency (AHPRA) (or eligible to register)
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or equivalent specialist qualifications
- Extensive experience in the practice of anaesthetics, training and commitment to continuing medical education
- Willingness to provide anaesthetic services across a range of specialty areas (including but not limited to surgical specialties, adult and child anaesthesia, labour suite, pre-admission clinics, ICU)
- Evidence of being a skilled communicator including both oral and written when communicating with students, patients, other professionals and the public
- Evidence of being a collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within a small team
