This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the recently expanded Cancer Care Services in Central Queensland. The current Cancer Care Service has two full time Clinical Haematologists, two full time Medical Oncologists and is supported by two Registrars and one Resident Medical Officer. Palliative Care Service is supported by a Senior Medical Officer, one Registrar and one Intern. Visiting Haematologists from Brisbane visit every fortnight to cover transplant follow-up patients. Cancer Care Service is primarily based at Rockhampton Hospital with an inpatient unit shared by Clinical Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care, a Day Therapy Unit, Outpatient clinics and Radiation Oncology Service. Visiting Haematology clinics at Gladstone Hospital are done on a weekly basis alternating between face to face clinics (once a month for each haematologist), and telehealth clinics. There are close multi-disciplinary links with Brisbane Haematologists via a weekly video-linked lymphoma MDT meeting.
We are seeking to appoint a second full time and a part time Staff Specialist – Clinical Haematology for this expanded service. The Staff Specialist will cover adult patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological disorders in outpatient clinics, day therapy unit and inpatients. They will also be required to provide consultation advice to clinicians from other departments, participate in haemovigilance activities, multidisciplinary team meetings and teaching medical students and junior doctors. There may also be opportunities to work within the private sector.
