This Practice located in a beautiful Rural Victoria country town offers the GP their opportunity to build on a well-established, successful private practice at the clinic and as a visiting medical officer at the Bairnsdale Regional Health Service with 24/24 access to theatre, epidural services and a level 3 nursery.

The successful applicant should be motivated to work in a rural setting, with access to an excellent range of allied health and specialist services.

Bairnsdale is a rural city 280 km from Melbourne. It is a thriving town with a wide range of infrastructure including many sporting activities, well established shopping district, great choice of public and private schools, many wonderful restaurants, a few boasting Michelin rating and a cinema.

 Gippsland is close to an extensive system of rivers, lakes, and mountains, providing an abundance of leisure activity opportunities where you can snow ski, surf, or sail in the same day.

 

Position Information and Frequently asked questions

  • Is this a full-time position or are you open to someone part time? If open to part time, is there a minimum number of days you will accept? 

This is a full-time position; however, the practice is open to negotiation regarding part time. Should a part time applicant be successful, we would require a minimum of 3 days/week consultation within the clinic and weekend cover encompassing one in three weekends. This is shared with two other experienced GPO’s. The expectation is that back up would be provided for a level B GPO. The successful applicant would be part of a region wide team providing support of each other.

  • How many patients per hour will the Dr see in Clinic and to what capacity is the Obstetrics part of the role (i.e idea of caseload/ numbers of patients/frequency)

Normally the case load is 4 patients/hour and one antenatal session/week consisting of 8-10 patients. The hospital delivers approximately 300 women/annum. There is an average of1-2 deliveries/day and 1-2 caesarean sections/month.

  • What Obstetrics support is available? (i.e nursing, equipment etc)

Hospital support is provided by an experienced team of midwives who are extremely capable of managing most normal deliveries. Facilities include resuscitation cots and equipment to stabilise neonates prior to transfer. Neonatal resuscitation credentialling is essential for this role. 

Emergency theatre access is available 24/7 assisted by a team of experienced local GP anaesthetists and surgeons who are available on demand. The region currently operates with 4 GP obstetricians, 2 procedural and 2 level B, all credentialled with VMO rights. The GPO would be joining a well-established and experienced regional team. 

  • How many hours/frequencies is the on call?

On call is from 1800-0830 weekdays, 0830-0830 Saturday, Sunday, and Public Holidays. GP VMO’s are on call 3 days/week every 4-5 weeks. VMO work involves caring for non-acute and palliative patients. Obstetric call is shared evenly between the three GPO’s and includes 1 full weekend/month.

  • What are the Clinic’s hours?

Monday-Friday 0830-1730

Saturday 0830-1230

Sunday Closed

Public Holidays 0900-1230

  • Is the Clinic a bulk, mixed or private billing practice? 

The clinic is a mixed billing practice.

Pensioners are bulk billed

Health care card holders pay a discounted gap

Private patients pay a full fee (currently 76.25)

The East Gippsland region is a retirement area with a significant percentage of pensioners.
